What types of insurance products are offered?
Lincoln National offers term and universal life policies. Learn more about each product below for financial protection for your family.
Lincoln Term Life Insurance
Here is some information on Lincoln’s types of term life insurance policies and programs. Lincoln NatLife insurance quotes for these policies are available over the phone.
Lincoln Financial term life insurance comes in two different policy options: TermAccel and LifeElements.
TermAccel is the easier of the two policies to apply and be approved for since it often doesn’t require a medical exam (unless you are a tobacco smoker). Individuals aged 18 to 60 years old can purchase this coverage at competitive pricing.
Coverage ranges from $100,000 to $1 million in terms of 10, 15, 20, or 30 years. However, tobacco smokers over 50 and non-smokers over 55 cannot purchase a 30-year term policy.
Lincoln‘s LifeElements is term insurance with level premium periods of 10, 15, 20, or 30 years. Coverage is to age 80. However, the terms available to each individual will depend on their age and whether they smoke tobacco or not.
While it is possible to get approved for LifeElements without a medical exam, you will have to apply for up to $1 million in coverage through their LincXpress app.
Automatic Coverage Decrease
There will be an automatic face decrease at the end of the level term period.
The gross premium payable in most cases will continue to be the same level premium for three years following the level term period (though the face amount will have reduced), after which premiums will increase annually to age 95.
What universal life insurance policies are available?
Lincoln National offers various universal policies, some of which are connected to stock options. However, they can be more difficult to apply for and manage as well as more expensive.
Lincoln‘s LifeGuarantee has a flexible premium and death benefit. Lincoln’s LifeGuarantee “survivorship” universal life product is also flexible in additional coverage and payment options. However, the policy covers two people and doesn’t pay out until the death of the second covered person.
Lincoln‘s WeathAccumulate and WealthPreserve indexed life insurance are connected to S&P market index performance. WealthPreserve has a guaranteed death benefit up to 40 years or age 90 and never falls below 1 percent interest.
Lincoln National offers a few different variable universal life insurance policies: VUL One, SVUL One, and AssetEdge. These policies will gain interest and are highly flexible. You can connect assets to the policy, and the benefits and premium will fluctuate based on market performance.
Similar to these options, a Lincoln National Life Insurance Company annuity (offered through their parent company, Lincoln Financial Group) can help you protect and grow your money to use during retirement or as an income stream for your loved ones after your passing.
What insurance policy riders and features are offered?
Let’s take a look at available riders and features on Lincoln National policies. Lincoln National has a few different life insurance options.
Included Term Life Features
An accelerated death benefit is included at no extra cost. The accelerated benefit rider allows the policyholder to request a portion of the death benefit if the Primary Insured is diagnosed as terminally ill with a life expectancy of less than six months (or twelve months in CA).
A conversion option is also included at no extra cost. The policy may be converted during the conversion period without proof of insurability. The conversion period is equal to the earlier of the level term period or before the Proposed Insured reaches age 70.
Optional Term Life Features
A children‘s life insurance rider is available with extra premium.
This rider provides level term coverage for all children of the Primary Insured. One unit equals $1,000 of coverage.
Coverage is available from one unit to fifteen units ($1,000 to $15,000). Each unit costs $5.00 annually. Coverage expires on the policy anniversary on or after the child’s 25th birthday.
A waiver of premium rider is available with extra premium. If the insured becomes totally disabled, Lincoln Insurance will waive payment of premiums while the disability lasts.
You can see these and other typical term life insurance optional features summarized in the table below.
Typical Optional Riders Available With Term Life Insurance
Term Life Insurance Rider | Benefit Explanation |
---|---|
Children's Protection Rider | Extends coverage to the insured's children for length of policy. |
Accidental Death & Dismemberment Benefit | Pays a benefit if you die or lose a limb in an accident before policy term ends. |
Disability Waiver of Premium | Allows you to skip premium payments, without penalty or cancellation of your policy in the event you become significantly disabled. |

What are the pros and cons?
Next, we’ll break down the pros and cons of Lincoln Financial life insurance so you can decide if this is the right company for you.
Pros:
- Affordable pricing and competitive rates for older policyholders. Life insurance gets more expensive the older you get. However, Lincoln National has below-average prices.
- No medical exam options. Some policies will approve non-smokers without a medical exam with a quick application. Medical exams are also not required for term policy renewals or conversions.
- Fast approval times. Most insurance companies can take weeks to make decisions on approvals. However, Lincoln Financial Group often makes its decisions within days.
Cons:
- Expensive permanent policies. While Lincoln Financial’s term policies are affordable, most permanent policies are too expensive for them to be worth it, especially for younger individuals.
- No whole life insurance. If you’re looking for a simple whole life insurance policy, you’ll have to find another company.
There are more pros than cons, but you should weigh each factor against your personal situation to make an informed choice.
